Winter warmers

winter.jpgWell here we are again at the time of year when all we want to do is eat warming, comforting food that fills us and makes us feel contented.Years ago that would have meant a lot of stodgy food made with suet and fats.If it was anything like my poor mums cooking it would have been very heavy going.

Seafood and other fish dishes

seafood.jpgI was watching a programme about seafood which reminded me of when we were in The Canary Islands one Christmas and instead of the usual Christmas dinner we had Lobster in Champagne sauce.It was at a wonderful Italian restaurant in Fuerteventura.We have been to Fuerteventura for the last few years at Christmas and usually have our Christmas meal at this restaurant.So it started me thinking about my favourite seafood recipes.

Homemade sausages & more.

Update on allotment

Using the middle of a Halloween pumpkin

halloween.jpg After you have painfully taken the middle from the pumpkin and made the face which  seems to have taken you  ages and the knife was never sharp enough!…What next? It seems such a waste to throw away the flesh and you can even use the seeds for my recipe for pumpkin seeds …nothing wasted.

Beans and pulses

beansBeans & pulses in the past year have become a very important part of my diet and a very useful item in my store cupboard.I used to have the occasional tin of bollotti beans etc.,but that would have been it!..not any more.I have dried beans in my store cupboard of every type.The ones I grow like borlotti and broad beans are frozen. Autumn & Soup is on its way

soup I am sat here looking out of my window and just realised how suddenly the leaves are changing.We look out on to a wood and for me it is the most beautiful time of the year..So it must be nearly soup time.So take a look at some of my favourite recipes as today I dug up the first of the leeks from my allotment and also celery as well,both freeze very well.
